Nyasha-Sanaa (pronounced Knee yasha or Ña sha – Sa Naw) is a term coined by Eric Murphy, that derives from Shona and Swahili names. Nyasha in the Shona (Zimbabwean) language means grace, also a pleasing and attractive quality or endowment; beauty; adornment; embellishment. Sanaa (like the actress) is a Swahili name, meaning work of art (also brightness, radiance in its Arabic origins). Through the virtue and notions of visibility, harmony, showmanship and modus operandi, a subtle but common thread is formed between these eclectic collections of art, tailored for the season.

My name is Derick Davies, I am an 11th grade visual artist who attends Oakland School for the Arts. I also play varsity basketball at Mcclymonds high school. When I was in kindergarten I was heavily inspired by cartoons, books, and movies and that helped create my love to make my own art. After I enrolled at OSA in middle school my art skills vastly expanded for the better, as throughout my years to 11th grade I’ve been taught by some of the best visual artists teachers in the world. I was introduced to so many materials and techniques and my ability to make art has grown as a whole.
