Joyce Gordon Gallery presents “Nyasha-Sanaa: The Fall Art Collection." This exhibit features a group of 10 artists of various mediums for Joyce Gordon Gallery's fall collection of artwork that range from 30 inches or less. These mediums include: sculpture, paintings, illustration, photography, ceramics and other intricate works on paper.

Nyasha-Sanaa (pronounced Knee yasha or Ña sha – Sa Naw) is a term coined by Eric Murphy, that derives from Shona and Swahili names. Nyasha in the Shona (Zimbabwean) language means grace, also a pleasing and attractive quality or endowment; beauty; adornment; embellishment. Sanaa (like the actress) is a Swahili name, meaning work of art (also brightness, radiance in its Arabic origins). Through the virtue and notions of visibility, harmony, showmanship and modus operandi, a subtle but common thread is formed between these eclectic collections of art, tailored for the season.

Zarahana N. Kargbo (a.k.a. Zara), a High School Visual Artists attending Oakland School for the Arts, (OSA). Zara has produced many works of art using acrylic paints, charcoal, ink, pencil, and mixed mediums. At a very early age, Zara developed her artistic sensibility and learned hands on art techniques at various art camps. Being expressive and creative focusing on facial features and expressions of any subject, as a visual artist she has grown in her ability to bring details that highlight the natural essence of any piece.

Zara’s recent appearance on KRON4 A-MAY-Zing kids in May 2023 gave her recognition as one of the Bay Area’s young up and coming Artist. Zara served as one of the curators in August 2023 “Emerging Youth of Time” Youth Art Exhibition in conjunction with OYAE (Oakland Youth Art Explosion) at Joyce Gordon Art Gallery

My name is Derick Davies, I am an 11th grade visual artist who attends Oakland School for the Arts. I also play varsity basketball at Mcclymonds high school. When I was in kindergarten I was heavily inspired by cartoons, books, and movies and that helped create my love to make my own art. After I enrolled at OSA in middle school my art skills vastly expanded for the better, as throughout my years to 11th grade I’ve been taught by some of the best visual artists teachers in the world. I was introduced to so many materials and techniques and my ability to make art has grown as a whole.
